Eco-materials and biocomposites

We are working on incorporating natural fibers (plant or animal) such as flax, hemp, wood, horsehair, etc., into biosourced mixtures to replace some synthetic composites.

This is good for the environment, for costs, and fits the idea of a circular economy.

Fiber preparation plays an important role in fiber/matrix adhesion: use of chemical treatments, plasma treatments, compatibilizing agents, etc.

The fiber/matrix ratio can be varied to make non-porous or porous materials. The vibro-acoustic properties of these objects are studied in particular in the Acoustics & Vibrations unit.
